Here is an opportunity for you.  A few members of Fort Wayne Taiko will be at the Avilla Library to do a lecture/demonstration on Wednesday July20th at 6PM    Come and experience the  drums and learn some of the basic elements of taiko.

YouTube Preview ImageI was recently in Phoenix for a family event and of course had to google taiko groups near Phoenix.  I was lucky enough to connect with Eileen Morgan, Sensei and new Director of Fushicho Daiko.  I was invited to attend a class where I was introduced to Fushicho Daiko’s style of taiko drumming. Very Fun!  It was great to be a part of their class and to watch their technique and style.  I was so inspired by their strike and style that I wiggled my schedule around so I could study privately for a 2-hour lesson.  It’s exciting to not only work on my own skills but to also bring the techniques and drills back to FW Taiko to help other drummers improve their skills.  And ultimately to give our audience a richer performance. Win-Win.

Three Rivers Festival 2011

 Three Rivers Festival is just around the corner and so is another opportunity to see FW Taiko up close and personal  at  1PM on  Saturday July 9th in Freimann Square.  Meet us at the corner of Main and Clinton; follow the sound of the  drums if you don’t see us.

Taste of the Arts

Our summer wouldn’t be complete without a performance at A Taste of the Arts!  This unique event is a great way to spend the day so block off the day to treat yourself.  Fort Wayne Taiko will be performing  from 1:00-1:30 PM at the plaza and always look forward to seeing and talking to our audience.

Summer Solstice

Fort Wayne Taiko will be playing at the Summer Solstice celebration hosted by Sophia’s Portico.  It will be held in the Children’s Garden at IPFW behind the Rhinehart Music building and Williams Theatre.  It is a beautiful setting and Sophia’s weaves an intimate atmosphere of drumming, singing and the honoring of our Earth and all her treasures.  We will play from 6:50-7:10 as people arrive, as accompaniment to the story unfolding and again at the end with an invitation for the audience to explore the drums with us. Bring a lawn chair or blanket ( some bug spray with all the rain we have had) and enjoy this lovely event.

 

Cherry Blossom Festival

The Cherry Blossom Festival usually kicks off our festival season and is always a favorite because Spring is in the air, it’s a chance to mingle with the crowd during the demo and participation hour and because we get to drum together and perform for our wonderful audience.
